Taskovski Movies has acquired Mexican Dutch filmmaker Diego Gutiérrez’s function documentary “The Shipwrecked,” which can have its world premiere at IDFA within the Worldwide Competitors.
“The Shipwrecked” follows a disillusioned filmmaker who returns to his homeland, Mexico, navigating tales of strange folks confronting extraordinary circumstances. These tales vary from a church restorer preserving the previous, to younger biologists in love, to a younger man remodeling a luxurious resort right into a vegetable backyard, and a struggling peasant combating to make ends meet.
The movie “celebrates small acts of braveness and resilience in a rustic grappling with inequality, corruption, and local weather challenges,” in keeping with a press release.
Irena Taskovski, head of acquisitions at Taskovski Movies, mentioned: “We’re excited to convey ‘The Shipwrecked’ to worldwide audiences. The movie’s deal with Mexico’s social inequality, ecological threats, and cultural heritage makes it each topical and cinematic — excellent for festivals and broadcasters on the lookout for pressing tales instructed with sensitivity and craft.”

The screenplay is by Gutiérrez, Kees Rijninks and Tamara Vuurmans; the editors are Albert Markus and Gutiérrez; and cinematography is by Gutiérrez and Miguel Labastida. The producers are Cobos and Rijninks.
