Students walk out of class to demand justice for Ralph Yarl

Staley Excessive Faculty college students in Kansas Metropolis, Missouri, who’re classmates of Ralph Yarl carried out a walk-out protest on April 18.

The roughly 1,500 college students assembled chanted, “We love you, Ralph!” in the course of the demonstration.

Yarl, a 16-year-old Black boy, was shot within the head by Andrew Lester, an 84-year-old White man. On April 13, Yarl went to the flawed home and rang Lester’s doorbell to select up his siblings.

On April 17, Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson charged Lester with first-degree assault and armed felony motion. The assault cost is Class A felony, the best in Missouri and carries a most sentence of life. Lester was not in custody on the time of Thompson’s announcement, however bond has been set at $200,000.

“Because the prosecutor of Clay County, I can let you know there was a racial element to the case,” Thompson mentioned within the press convention broadcast by CBS Information.

Lester instructed police he was “scared to dying” when he noticed Yarl at his door because of the teenage boy’s 6 foot top. With out exchanging phrases, he shot him twice after which referred to as 911, CNN reported.

President Joe Biden has spoken to Yarl and invited him to the White Home.

Yarl is recovering, in line with civil rights lawyer Lee Merritt.

“Ralph Yarl is dwelling and recovering,” Merritt tweeted.
