STER-KINEKOR SETS RECORD STRAIGHT ON ‘MELANIA’ DOCCIE ‘SNUB’
Simply days earlier than the world premiere of Melania on Friday, 30 January, movie distributor Filmfinity introduced it had rescinded its resolution to display the movie.
The movie had been picked up by Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro, which later eliminated it from their listings.
Filmfinity’s head of gross sales and advertising, Thobashan Govindarajulu, stated that “given the present local weather”, the movie will now not be launched on huge screens in South Africa.
The corporate provided no different clarification.
Information that Melania had been scrapped from screening was met with blended reactions from the general public.
On its social media platforms, Ster-Kinekor responded to claims that it was concerned within the decision-making.
It responded to an X consumer with the tweet: “Ster-Kinekor is an exhibitor. And all movies that we launch are provided by licensed distributors. We acquired notification from the native distributor that they had been now not releasing the title in South Africa”.
CAN SOUTH AFRICANS STILL WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY?
Though Melania will now not be screened at cinemas, it’s anticipated to get a streaming launch.
Amazon – which holds the streaming rights – is predicted to launch it within the coming months underneath its Prime Video platform.
