“I’m very excited,” mentioned Hankerson in regards to the endorsement. “She’s been my mentor for the previous eight years. It’s been a humbling expertise and I respect the present of confidence in my potential to serve the district, which she at all times refers to as her child.”

Hankerson has raised $25,141 in non-public funds and $108,969 in public funds. Regardless of an preliminary denial of marketing campaign funds this month, New York Metropolis Marketing campaign Finance Board (NYCCFB) doled out $26,524 with a be aware of correction, mentioned Hankerson. Up to now he has about 37% in-district donors and about 90% small donors supporting him, in line with NYCCFB numbers.

Her endorsement out of the best way, Speaker Adams might have larger fish to fry with the mayoral election. She was rumored to be contemplating a run towards embroiled-in-scandal Mayor Eric Adams — or not less than politicos have been quietly asking her to.

A Queens native, she was the primary lady to characterize her district when she was elected in 2017. Then she made historical past in 2022 when she was elected the primary Black individual to be metropolis council speaker and lead the primary women-majority council within the metropolis’s historical past. Maybe most memorably, she’s been an anchor level for the council, usually sounding off towards the mayor on quite a few fronts like immigration and felony justice reform.

“Because the speaker has acknowledged a number of instances, she has choices. I don’t know what she’ll do however she’ll be phenomenal at no matter she decides to do,” mentioned Hankerson.

Wills was totally exonerated in 2021.

“I wouldn’t say I’m frightened. It’s a democracy, anybody can run,” mentioned Hankerson. “I’m centered on the marketing campaign irrespective of who’s within the race.”

Hitlall is an actual property dealer, served on Neighborhood Board 10, and does group outreach for the 106 Precinct. He’s been endorsed by Senators Joseph P. Addabbo and Roxanne Persaud, amongst others. He’s raised $33,486 in non-public funds and $132,767 in public funds.
