Soul Legend Don Bryant Passes Away at 83

The world of soul music is mourning the lack of one in every of its most cherished voices and songwriters, Don Bryant. The legendary Memphis artist handed away on December 26 on the age of 83. His household confirmed his demise in a heartfelt announcement on social media, sharing a message that captured his spirit.

“Don cherished sharing his music and songs with all of you and it gave him such nice pleasure to carry out and file new music,” the submit learn. “He was so appreciative of everybody who was a part of his musical journey and who supported him alongside the best way.”

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, in April 1942, Bryant’s musical training started early, singing in his father’s vocal group. By his teenage years, his expertise for songwriting was plain. He started penning tracks for different artists, together with the music “I Bought To Know” for the influential R&B group The 5 Royales. This early success set the stage for a profession outlined by highly effective lyrics and unforgettable melodies.

Bryant’s most iconic work got here in collaboration with the gifted singer Ann Peebles, who would later turn out to be his spouse. Collectively, they wrote the timeless 1973 hit “I Can’t Stand the Rain.” The monitor grew to become a worldwide sensation, so highly effective that Beatles legend John Lennon as soon as declared it “the very best music ever.” Their artistic partnership was a pressure, producing different beloved songs like “99 Kilos” and “Do I Want You” earlier than they married.

He launched two critically acclaimed solo albums, Don’t Give Up on Love in 2017 and You Make Me Really feel in 2020.
