There aren’t any limits to Solange Knowles’ expertise and creativity and now College of Southern California (USC) is getting ready a “seat on the desk” for the multihyphenate star. After launching a free library designed to protect Black literature and make it accessible to everybody via her multidisciplinary establishment Saint Heron, Knowles is now bringing her creativity to academia.
The “Cranes within the Sky” singer is reportedly becoming a member of USC Thornton Faculty of Music as the college’s first-ever scholar in residence. USC college students will likely be launched to Solange as Professor Knowles, as she teaches a course on music curation in collaboration with Saint Heron, the USC Thornton dean, and different college members.
“I’m a GED graduate,” Solange advised The Los Anges Instances. “I used to be a teenage mother. I used to be pregnant with my son at 17, so I didn’t get to additional my training within the classical sense. However I used to be actually blessed and honored to have enriched these different components of training via my artwork, via journey [and] via the globalization of my life. So to have the ability to have entry and broader instruments as a scholar in residence, to counterpoint that and deepen that, is actually so thrilling for me.”
Along with educating a category, Solange will host student-focused conversations and workshops, and assist the college’s college construct long-term educating frameworks for the music college’s curriculum. She can be set to affix the Dean’s Artistic Vanguard Program, which invitations artists and business figures to mentor college students, collaborate with college and one another to create “a vibrant and interdisciplinary group.”
“I feel the work that she does as a music curator could be very singular and really distinctive, so I’m hoping that she’s going to deliver that uniqueness into the classroom and [her] programming,” Thornton Faculty of Music Dean Jason King shared.“I feel she herself will likely be a mannequin for learn how to do this type of work and to do it in another way.”
For Solange, who launched her first album at 15 and grew up with a primary hand expertise watching her large sister in Future’s Baby, this new position looks like “a fruits of the numerous practices” she’s exhibited all through her decades-long multidisciplinary profession.
“For many years now, I’ve watched the evolution of music and music curation, and I really feel like I’ve one thing enough so as to add to the dialog,” Solange shared. “I really feel actually impressed by the thought of my 15-year-old self having the ability to have somebody type of stroll me via the footsteps of what I used to be about to embark on.
