‘Slush fund’: Bill that ended government shutdown also allows US senators to get half $1 million

Tucked away contained in the invoice signed by President Donald Trump to reopen the federal authorities on Wednesday is a provision that might make some U.S. senators $500,000 richer.

After signing the “Persevering with Appropriations, Agriculture, Legislative Department, Army Development and Veterans Affairs, and Extensions Act, 2026” within the Oval Workplace on Wednesday evening, Trump vowed that, with the federal government reopened, Congress would “proceed our work to decrease the price of dwelling, restore public security, develop our economic system, and make America reasonably priced once more for all Individuals.”
