Shawn Edwards Exhibit Opens for Black History Month

*Award-winning movie critic Shawn Edwards is marking a historic milestone with a brand new exhibit opening throughout Black Historical past Month on the Black Archives of Mid-America.

Titled “The Lifetime of a Movie Critic: As Instructed by Shawn Edwards,” the exhibit paperwork his decades-long journey in movie, tv, and cultural advocacy, per the information launch.

Edwards has spent greater than 25 years reviewing motion pictures and tv on Fox 4 Information, making him the longest-serving Black movie critic in tv historical past. The exhibit highlights how a lifelong ardour for cinema advanced right into a profession that reshaped illustration and visibility inside leisure journalism.

The set up gives an in-depth take a look at each Edwards’ skilled and private experiences. Guests can discover the instruments he used, the movies he championed, notable interviews, and inventive tasks that outlined his path. The exhibit serves as a curated time capsule, tracing his rise from Kansas Metropolis to Hollywood and again.

Reflecting on the timing of the exhibit, Edwards mentioned, “I hit the benchmark of twenty-five years on tv on Fox 4 Information as a movie critic. I believed that this was the right time to look again on my profession ascension whereas reflecting on the issues that impressed and motivated me alongside the best way. It’s been an unbelievable trip and I wish to share my expertise as I embark on my newest problem of bringing the Black Film Corridor of Fame to life.”

The exhibit additionally underscores Edwards’ broader affect on Black movie tradition. He’s the co-founder of the African American Movie Critics Affiliation, creator of the Celebration of Black Cinema and Tv, founding father of the Juneteenth Movie Pageant, and creator and govt director of the Black Film Corridor of Fame.

Working along with the Black Film Corridor of Fame, the exhibit opens Monday, February 2, and continues by Friday, February 27, on the Black Archives of Mid-America. A gap reception is scheduled for Friday, February 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The month concludes with a Black Film Corridor of Fame ‘Discuss Again’ that includes Edwards on Saturday, February 28, at 6:00 p.m. on the Boone Theater. Further particulars can be found at blackarchives.org.
