Expertise-driven doc gross sales outfit Rise & Shine has boarded “Hearth Hearth Hearth” (“Feu Feu Feu”), the characteristic debut of Swiss rising voice Pauline Jeanbourquin (“Nightfall”), on account of world premiere within the nationwide competitors strand of Nyon’s Visions du Réel docu pageant. Selection has had solely entry to the worldwide trailer.

The poetic and charming coming-of-age story of a younger lady with therapeutic skills, is produced by high-profile Geneva-based Shut Up Movies, credited for the 2023 Swiss Oscar entry “Thunder” and as co-producer of the Oscar-nominated “I Am Not Your Negro.”

“I get pleasure from engaged on first options, assembly a brand new voice, exploring and questioning what it means to direct, figuring issues out collectively. It’s a accountability I discover deeply fulfilling,” producer and Shut Up Movies’ co-owner Flavia Zanon says.

“Pauline reached out to me in 2019, and I used to be immediately drawn to the sorts of tales she wished to inform and felt I could possibly be the precise associate to assist her deliver them to the display. I like the best way she seems to be on the world, how she is ready to discover grace within the smallest of issues.”

Rise & Shine’s pageant supervisor Anja Dziersk provides: “It’s one of many best challenges for any documentary filmmaker to seize real and genuine coming-of-age tales. We discovered it fairly superb what Pauline Jeanbourquin achieves with ‘Hearth Hearth Hearth,’ and we’re positive that it helped her that she herself remains to be fairly near that age group. We’re pleased to work with this nice expertise on her debut movie.”

“Hearth Hearth Hearth” follows the abnormal but extraordinary Juliette, throughout a scout summer time camp. The 17-year-old lady has simply completed college and aspires to change into a midwife. However she is rather more than that. On social media the place she has greater than 40,000 followers, “Junniverse” is called a “fire-talker” a present she inherited from her grandmother.

“I grew up in Jura, a rural area of Switzerland the place the custom of healers may be very robust, and the subject all the time intrigued me,” Jeanbourquin explains to Selection. “I wished to inform the story of those ‘wizards’ by going towards the stereotypical imaginative and prescient we would have of them. That’s how I got here to inform the abnormal story of a young person with a rare reward.”

“After some years of analysis on the topic, Juliette appeared in my TikTok feed, and I instantly present in her the character I’d been dreaming of portraying all alongside. After we met, it was apparent that I needed to accompany her throughout that pivotal summer time after highschool. I selected to comply with my instinct and captured the coming-of-age story of a contemporary witch.”

For Jeanbourquin, the movie “can also be the portrait of a sure era: their relationship to religion and beliefs, their have to make sense of a world that they could understand as disenchanting, and their want to attach with others by means of social media.”

To be a real “fly on the wall” and get fully-immersed in Juliette’s every day life, Janbourquin adopted her and a bunch of kids at a scout summer time camp. “With my small crew, we solely had two weeks to create a movie,” she remembers. “It was necessary for me to discover a good stability between leaving them alone, free to have their very own experiences, and filming. The problem was to take heed to their wants, readjusting day by day, whereas keeping track of the movie to be made.”

The filmmaker employed skilled cinematographer Augustin Losserand to seize the fleeting summer time moments and Juliette’s therapeutic skills. “I believe Augustin has a present for enjoying with actuality and pure gentle to deliver magic to his photos. This quest for magic was our watchword all through the method,” Jeanbourquin says.

The movie was co-produced by public broadcaster RTS (“they’re true champions of the documentary kind, keen to take dangers on rising administrators,” says Zanon), with help from the Federal Workplace for Tradition, Cinéforom and the Loterie Romande, with further grants from the SSA, Suissimage and MEDIA Desk Switzerland.

Nyon-born Zanon is trying ahead to showcasing her movie at Visions du Réel, which fuelled her love for movie and filmmaking. “Premiering a movie right here positively feels particular – if solely to have my mother and father see what it’s I do for a dwelling!,” quips the producer.

The fifty fifth Visions du Réel runs April 12-21.
