A statewide job drive has been launched, together with the Florida Basic Baptist Conference, to demand that the governor of Florida and the State Division of Training, train Black historical past precisely, factually and forthrightly. The Reverend Dr. Carl Johnson serves as president.
Within the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., within the state of Florida, we organized a job drive labeled, “Instructing Our Personal Historical past.”
Carter G. Woodson, the founding father of Negro Historical past Week, inspired us to not sit idly by and permit this technique to “mis”-educate Black folks.
Our Process Drive will current to the federal government a complete curriculum that appropriately and successfully teaches Africa and African-American historical past to college students in Florida’s public faculties. Furthermore, we’ll develop 40-plus “Freedom Faculties” by 2025. We won’t sit idly by and permit any governor, to erase the correct educating of Black historical past.
The Targets of “The Instructing Our Personal Historical past” Process Drive are as follows:
1. To encourage the correct and unbiased educating of African-American historical past, tradition, experiences and invaluable contributions within the state of Florida and this nation
2. To develop methods and options to assist and strengthen public schooling in marginalized communities
3. To develop and adequately assist 40 Freedom Academies throughout the state of Florida
4. To create vital after faculty applications for college kids in Title One faculties in marginalized communities throughout the state of Florida, utilizing an age applicable African American Historical past Curriculum to strengthen studying, writing and arithmetic abilities
5. To create summer time “Freedom Faculties” to show youth the significance of African People contributions, self-respect, private duty, and African American contributions
6. To empower and encourage the three personal HBCUs in Florida to develop laboratory faculties on their respective campuses by 2025
7. To domesticate and create partnerships with foundations, companies and philanthropists to assist applications and occasions that persistently have a good time the contributions of African American historical past, tradition, literature, religion and heritage
All of us should redouble our efforts to combat for social justice, voting rights, civil rights, variety, fairness and inclusion. The dismantling of applications of variety, fairness and inclusion are shameful and insulting.
