Racially Motivated Hate Crime Claims the Lives of Three People in Jacksonville, Florida

On Saturday, August twenty sixth, 21-year-old Ryan Palmeter— a white man— shot three Black folks at a Greenback Common retailer in Jacksonville, Florida. The shop was situated in a predominantly Black neighborhood. Victims within the mindless tragedy have been recognized as Michelle Carr, A.J. Laguerre and Jerrald Gallion. Laguerre was a 19-year outdated retailer worker who was shot whereas working away from the shooter whereas Carr was shot in her automotive and Gallion was shot upon entry of the shop.

Based on Jacksonville Sheriff T.Okay. Waters, this taking pictures was a racially motivated assault. Palmeter was allegedly planning this taking pictures for a while particularly as her bought weapons as early as April this 12 months and extra in June. Based on AP Information, Palmeter texted his father throughout the taking pictures and requested him to enter his room the place he was capable of finding a “suicide word, a will and writings” which have since been described as racist materials.

Angie Nixon echoed these identical sentiments as she spoke throughout the service. “We have to be clear, it was not simply racially motivated, it was racist violence that has been perpetuated by rhetoric and insurance policies designed to assault Black folks, interval,” stated Nixon.

Amid worsening and unsafe situations within the state of Florida, many are hoping that this incident will encourage sincere and truthful conversations concerning the divisiveness being brewed by the state’s politicians.
