President’s ban on transgender soldiers sparks backlash from lawmakers

Lawmakers and activists are blasting President Donald Trump’s government order to ban transgender troopers from enlisting or serving within the army, claiming the laws will hurt marginalized communities.  

U.S. Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.-9) mentioned that the Jan. 27 order is an assault on variety, fairness and inclusion. 

“Attacking absolutely succesful, patriotic people who volunteer to combat for and defend america will weaken our nationwide safety and protection,” Smith mentioned in an announcement. “If we don’t do our greatest to achieve out to all communities throughout the extremely numerous spectrum of our nation, we’ll miss out on the expertise we want.”
