Prairie View A&M University tightens admissions standards

Beginning within the 2026-27 faculty yr, Prairie View A&M College will elevate the bar for incoming college students, following a vote by the Texas A&M College System Board of Regents.

The choice comes as Prairie View experiences unprecedented development. Positioned simply 40 miles northwest of Houston in Waller County, the Traditionally Black College welcomed its largest-ever freshman class final fall, enrolling about 2,300 first-year college students. 

In keeping with PVAMU President Dr. Tomikia P. LeGrande, 600 college students who met admissions standards have been turned away as a consequence of house limitations.

With enrollment nearing 10,000 college students—hitting 9,893 in fall 2024—college officers are actively exploring methods to accommodate demand, together with increasing pupil housing.
