The Paris Noir exhibition honors the Black artists from the Fifties to 2000 who fled from the US to Paris on a quest for freedom.

A groundbreaking exhibition, “Paris Noir,” has launched on the Pompidou Middle in Paris. It is going to spotlight the works of 150 Black artists from Africa, the Americas, and the Caribbean whose works have hardly ever or by no means been displayed in France.

The Paris Noir exhibition, additionally known as “Black Paris,” highlights creators from the Fifties to 2000 and introduces a completely new map of Paris. Alicia Knock, curator of Paris Noir, instructed ABC Information that the exhibition is “an unbelievable epic of decolonization.” The show acknowledges the Black figures for his or her contributions as artists and cultural ambassadors, lecturers, poets, and philosophers. Paris Noir is a nod to Pan-Africanism, the nationalist motion that inspired solidarity between folks of the African diaspora, and the exhibition will present the Black solidarities that arose on the time. “These artists contributed to rewriting the historical past of modernism and postmodernism,” Knock mentioned. The exhibition’s affiliate curator, Éva Barois De Caevel, mentioned Paris Noir is about Black consciousness and journeys by means of the historical past of slavery, racism, and experiences shared by Black artists.
