Political hope for Liberia women? Parliament’s bill favour

Liberia’s election fee revealed Thursday 20 July 2023 a preliminary checklist of candidates for October’s legislative election, with ladies accounting for less than 15 per cent of nominees regardless of efforts for a 30 per cent quota.

Solely 159 of the 1,030 individuals nominated to the West African nation’s Senate and Home of Representatives are ladies, the Nationwide Elections Fee (NEC) introduced.

Parliament’s invoice on gender

Lawmakers final 12 months handed a invoice requiring political events to incorporate not more than 70 per cent and at least 30 per cent of both gender on their candidates’ lists, however President George Weah didn’t signal it into regulation.
