Oprah Winfrey opens up about embracing her knee surgery scars: ‘I’m proud of what they represent’

After 4 years of hiding them, Oprah Winfrey is lastly embracing her surgical procedure scars. 

In a latest letter to her “Oprah Every day” insider members, the 71-year-old media mogul opened up about how, for the primary time since she received double knee alternative surgical procedure in 2021, she was opting to indicate her knees. 

“Due to that surgical procedure, I’m energetic, wholesome, and in a position to totally inhabit my physique with out ache or limitations,” wrote the manager producer of “The Coloration Purple. “And but I’ve felt self-conscious in regards to the scars on my knees. For 4 years now, I’ve lined them up so nobody would see them.”

She had picked out an outfit to put on for the taping by Max Mara that was a skirt set. Nevertheless, when she sat down, the skirt barely rose above her knees, revealing her scars. She contemplated becoming a pair of pants till she stated she thought, “Why not?”

“I cherished the outfit. And extra importantly, I really like my knees, and the brand new lease on life they’ve given me as I stride into my 70s,” she continued. “I’ve no cause to cover them. I’m happy with what they symbolize.” 

In October 2022, Winfrey first revealed she had gone below the knife twice the yr earlier than, in August and in November, for knee alternative surgical procedures. In her letter to her Insiders, she described the preliminary restoration as “brutal.” 

“Once I received house, I couldn’t even elevate my leg, or get my heel away from bed,” she recalled. “I vowed that once I was in a position to transfer once more, I’d take full benefit of motion and train.” 

As she healed, the media character stated she began mountaineering day by day. At first, she would stroll for about 5 minutes earlier than step by step growing her distance every time, till, after a yr, she was in a position to stroll 10 miles up a mountain.

“With every step, my appreciation for each organ and limb in my physique grew exponentially,” she stated.

Contemplating her grueling restoration, all that she had been by way of, and what her scars symbolize for her, Winfrey stated she confidently “wore the outfit” that day.
