JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Increased training officers in Mississippi voted Nov. 16 to call a brand new president of Jackson State College, the state’s largest traditionally Black college.
The board of trustees for the state Establishments of Increased Studying named Marcus L. Thompson the thirteenth JSU president, concluding a monthslong search that started after the March 31 resignation of the college’s former president Thomas Okay. Hudson.
Thompson at the moment serves because the deputy commissioner and chief administrative officer of the Establishments of Increased Studying public college system.
“The Board chosen a frontrunner who is aware of the distinctive historic significance of the college who will articulate a daring imaginative and prescient for the longer term and will likely be indefatigable within the pursuit of excellence for Jackson State College,” stated Steven Cunningham, chair of the Board Search Committee.
Hudson, the previous president, was placed on go away in March. Months prior, the JSU college senate issued a vote of no confidence in Hudson. They’d raised issues about campus security and curriculum modifications. Elayne Hayes-Anthony, who had been the chairwoman of JSU’s Division of Journalism and Media Research, served as performing president.
Thompson earned a health care provider of philosophy diploma from JSU in city larger training. In an announcement Nov. 16, he stated would develop a consensus across the college’s targets.
“I’m very honored to be named President of Jackson State College as a result of I consider in its mission, objective and most of all, the excellent college, employees, alumni and college students who embody our faculty’s motto of difficult minds, altering lives,” Thompson stated.
Thompson’s appointment will likely be efficient Nov. 27.
