NYCHA activist Carmen Quinones to run in 69th Assembly race

New York Metropolis Housing Authority (NYCHA) activist Carmen Quinones, who’s the tenant affiliation president at Douglass Housing, has introduced her plans to run for the 69th Meeting District. 

The seat is presently held by Assemblymember Daniel O’Donnell, who lately stated he is not going to be in search of reelection after greater than 20 years in workplace. The district covers Manhattan Valley, Morningside Heights, and the Higher West Facet.

“Collectively, we are going to navigate the advanced panorama of legislative change, bringing about reforms that really profit us all,” stated Quinones in a press release. “As your assemblymember, I will probably be a tireless advocate for our desires, our struggles, and our shared imaginative and prescient of a neighborhood the place each resident thrives.”

Quinones is understood to be a fierce advocate of the nation’s largest public housing system. She pledged to work towards a flourishing, unified neighborhood. She goals to enhance public security, training, and workforce improvement within the district. She has hosted quite a few meals giveaways and voter registration drives, and is presently working to pave the best way for homeownership in NYCHA communities.

Quinones ran for the Metropolis Council in District 7 in 2021 and misplaced. This time round, Quinones is operating as a Democrat and is up towards 4 different candidates within the meeting race: Melissa Kate Rosenberg, Eli Clemans Northrup, Barry Weinberg, and Micah C.
