North Carolina Teen Who Had Open Heart Surgery and Was Told She Would Have Learning Disabilities Graduates at Top of Class, Secures $2.5M In Scholarships

A youngster from Harmony, North Carolina, shouldn’t be solely graduating on the prime of her class but additionally has amassed a formidable $2.5 million in scholarships, in keeping with studies.

Having already acquired acceptance letters from 61 faculties, Kyanna Woods finds herself with a plethora of choices in terms of selecting a university.

Kyanna proudly listed just a few of the colleges vying for her attendance: “I’ve been accepted into Spelman Faculty, Xavier College, the College of South Carolina, Appalachian State.”

The Woods household has grow to be conversant in the common inflow of mail from numerous establishments searching for Kyanna’s enrollment.

“We have been going to the mailbox fairly frequently, and we get piles of stuff from this faculty or that college,” remarked William Woods, Kyanna’s father, throughout an interview with WCNC-TV in Charlotte.

Kyanna’s journey to her achievements started early in her life. As an toddler, she underwent open coronary heart surgical procedure at three months outdated.

Medical doctors found two holes in her tiny coronary heart, and the prognosis appeared daunting.

“It was an uphill battle,” her father recalled.

Medical professionals cautioned Kyanna’s dad and mom that she would encounter difficulties in strolling and enjoying sports activities and would doubtlessly face studying disabilities. Nevertheless, Kyanna defied these predictions, excelling each in athletics and teachers.

“It’s only a blessing to see what she will be able to do and what she has performed,” mentioned Kourtney Woods, Kyanna’s mom.

Acknowledging her resilient spirit, Kyanna attributes her upward journey to her religion and the unwavering help of her household.

“They’re tremendous necessary. I really like all of them to loss of life,” she mentioned.

She additionally accepts the moniker of a “miracle little one.”

“I settle for it with open arms as a result of it’s the fact,” Kyanna mentioned.

Kyanna has already completed the unimaginable feat of graduating twice — as soon as from highschool and as soon as from an affiliate’s diploma program.

Along with her future firmly in sight, she has made her choice concerning her school of selection: one of many nation’s Traditionally Black faculties and Universities.

“I’ve determined I will probably be attending Xavier College of Louisiana as a pre-med psychology pupil on the valedictorian scholarship,” Kyanna proudly declared.
