National Civil Rights Museum announces 2025 Freedom Award

(Black PR Wire) The Nationwide Civil Rights Museum is proud to announce the distinguished honorees for the thirty fourth Freedom Award, recognizing their distinctive contributions to civil and human rights. The Museum’s signature occasion, the Freedom Award, pays tribute to people who’ve proven unwavering dedication to advancing reality, fairness, and justice in a time when these values are below risk.

The esteemed 2025 Freedom Award honorees are:

MARC H. MORIAL – As president and CEO of the Nationwide City League since 2003, Marc Morial has reworked the 100-plus-year-old civil rights group with a renewed concentrate on financial empowerment, training, and felony justice reform. His management has expanded alternatives for underserved communities and solidified the City League’s place as one of many nation’s most influential civil rights organizations.

VELMA LOIS JONES – A lifelong Memphian, educator and civil rights chief, she made historical past as the primary Black and longest-serving president of the Tennessee Training Affiliation. She additionally broke floor as the primary lady to steer the NAACP Memphis Department and served in key management roles with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and LeMoyne-Owen Faculty.

MARK SUZMAN – CEO of The Gates Basis, Mark Suzman has devoted his life to addressing injustice and inequality worldwide. From his upbringing in apartheid South Africa to his work with the United Nations and the Gates Basis, he has constructed world partnerships to advance well being, training, and financial alternative for all.

The thirty fourth Freedom Award ceremony can be held Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 7 p.m. Central on the historic Orpheum Theatre in Memphis, Tenn. The night begins with the Pre-Award Gala and Crimson Carpet at 5:30 p.m. on Primary Road in entrance of the adjoining Halloran Centre.

This 12 months’s occasion will function a particular efficiency by Wendy Moten, the acclaimed vocalist and Memphis native celebrated for her powerhouse performances on NBC’s “The Voice” and worldwide music levels.
