“It’s not even my focus, and it by no means has been,” she admitted.

For Mýa, that selection is deeply rooted in her lived experiences. “My mom is an impartial thinker. I’ve witnessed a divorce between my dad and mom. I’ve witnessed every kind of issues. My father is a really engaging man. I’ve witnessed numerous issues,” she stated. Watching the complexities of relationships play out round her, she defined, made her cautious of the fairytale pictures little women are so usually bought.

“As a bit lady, the white wedding ceremony gown…I used to be very scared of these issues,” Mýa shared. “I seemed elsewhere and doubtless escaped an excessive amount of in my work. It hasn’t been a focus for me, and that is what it seems to be like.”

As a substitute, Mýa says she’s discovered pleasure in crafting a life that feels genuine—even when it means going towards the grain. “I’m very proud of myself, however that additionally required me to strip numerous issues which are anticipated of me on a particular timeline for the society that we grew up in to have. I’m speaking about marriage. I’m speaking about children. And when you don’t have it, one thing’s improper with you, proper? However did I want it? No, not with what I’ve witnessed.”

That doesn’t imply she’s closed the door fully. Mýa admits she’s nonetheless determining how she feels about motherhood. “What I’ve been by way of, it hasn’t kicked in. I’m like, what’s that feeling that I get with puppies? Is that going to occur with infants for me? However I’ve godchildren, I’ve nieces, I’ve nephews, so I’ve an enormous lot of kids in my life.”

Nonetheless, she stays open to what the longer term holds. “To not say it’s not potential, and I’m not open to it,” she clarified. “I’m open to all issues, however proper now, I’m on a particular project. That’s all.”

Mýa’s journey is a refreshing reminder that success doesn’t should observe the normal guidelines, and proves that carving your individual lane, whether or not that features rings, children, each, or neither, is greater than sufficient.
