Morocco’s numerous court cases against internet users: AMDH

The Moroccan Affiliation for Human Rights (AMDH) mentioned in a report on Thursday 3 August 2023 it has documented “dozens of instances of authorized proceedings” towards web customers over the previous two years.

It mentioned many of those associated to posts on social networks criticising the authorities. The AMDH mentioned proceedings had been launched “on the premise of political beliefs, investigations, press articles revealed on social networks, or due to participation in peaceable demonstrations”.

What number of defendants had been acquitted?

It mentioned sentences handed down over the previous two years ranged from a couple of months to 6 years in jail. Solely 5 defendants had been acquitted, it added, with out elaborating.

The group mentioned rights activists, in addition to odd individuals, have been jailed on costs starting from “attacking Islam or the monarchy” to “insulting civil servants”.

Authorities in Morocco are battling defamation on the web
