Mobo awards: Ayra Starr is the first woman to win Best African Music award in 16 years

Ayra Starr clinched two large awards on the 2025 Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards held in Newcastle, United Kingdom.

The Nigerian performer grew to become the primary lady to win finest African music act in 16 years and likewise received finest worldwide music act.

Ayra Starr defeated Asake, Bnxn & Ruger, King Promise, Odumodublvck, Rema, Shallipopi, Tems, Tyla, and Uncle Waffles to win the Finest African Music Act award. 

She additionally beat out world-acclaimed competitors like Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, and Latto.

Based on The Solar Nigeria, Ayra Starr follows Wizkid (2017, 2021) and Burna Boy (2020, 2022) as the one Nigerian musicians to win the MOBO Award for Finest Worldwide Act.

She mentioned, “Successful these awards means a lot to me. I need to thank my followers, my workforce, and everybody who has supported my journey. That is for African music and for all the ladies pushing boundaries.”

The singer, who was born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, rose to worldwide fame in 2021 along with her hit track Bloody Samaritan, which was launched by Mavin Information underneath the path of music producer Don Jazzy.

Her profession has taken off since then, and he or she has acquired a number of nominations and awards for her efforts.
