Miguel de Cervantes Origin Story ‘The Captive’ Debuts Teaser

The teaser has been debuted for “The Captive,” the origin story of Miguel de Cervantes, the writer of the novel “Don Quixote.” The historic epic is directed by Alejandro Amenábar, who gained an Oscar for “The Sea Inside” and was BAFTA nominated for “The Others.” It is going to be launched by Disney in Spain, whereas Movie Constellation is promoting different territories.

“The Captive” not too long ago offered to France (Haut et Court docket), Greece and Cyprus (Filmtrade/Tanweer), Portugal (Nos Audiovisuais), Bulgaria (Professional Movies), Former Yugoslavia (Discovery), and CIS (Russian World Imaginative and prescient), with patrons circling in North America.

The movie, which shot final yr on areas in Valencia, Alicante and Seville in Spain, is now in post-production. It has been dated for launch in Spanish theaters on Oct. 17 with Disney.

The movie is about in 1575. Miguel de Cervantes, a wounded 28-year-old Spanish navy soldier, is held prisoner by Ottoman corsairs in Algiers. Confronted with a ticking clock, a merciless loss of life awaits him ought to his fellow countrymen fail to pay his ransom quickly; however inside the confines of his cell, Cervantes discovers a shocking refuge – the artwork of storytelling.

His tales enthrall his fellow captives, and seize the eye of Hasan, the enigmatic and feared Bey of Algiers, igniting an affinity between captor and captive. Suspicions rise amidst rising tensions within the metropolis, and Cervantes, pushed by an unwavering sense of optimism, devises a daring plan for freedom.

Julio Peña (“Berlin,” “By way of My Window”) stars alongside Alessandro Borghi (“The Eight Mountains,” “Supersex”), with cinematography by Alex Catalán, manufacturing design by Juan Pedro de Gaspar, costume design by Nicoletta Taranta, modifying by Carolina Martínez, visible results by Ana Rubio, and music by Amenábar.

The movie is produced by Fernando Bovaira at Mod Producciones, Himenóptero and Misent Producciones in co-production with Propaganda Italia, with the participation of Netflix, RTVE and RAI Cinema, and the assist of ICAA, Generalitat Valenciana and Eurimages.
