Maggots Seen on 24-Year-Old’s Body at His Wake, Family Sues Funeral Home

Nationwide — The household of Torreon Williams, 24, has filed a $5 million lawsuit towards a funeral dwelling in Chesapeake, Virginia, after they found maggots in his casket throughout an open viewing again in 2022. They declare the funeral dwelling uncared for his physique, inflicting extreme emotional trauma.

Williams died in a automobile crash in Could 2022. Simply days later, his household gathered for a wake at Snellings Funeral Dwelling in Chesapeake. However as an alternative of a peaceable goodbye, they had been shocked to see his face lined with maggots crawling out of his nostril and mouth.

In line with the Each day Mail, the lawsuit claims maggots had been seen in Williams’ nostril, mouth, and throughout his face. His mom, Tabitha Worrell, was reportedly so distraught that her screams echoed by means of the room. A funeral dwelling workers member allegedly informed her to not “make a scene.”

The lawsuit accuses the funeral dwelling of gross negligence, stating that maggots had been current “for a major time period” and had been ignored earlier than the service. At one level, one worker allegedly informed the household, “Flies bought to him.”

Worrell and different family are suing Snellings Funeral Dwelling and its guardian firm, Hollomon-Brown Funeral Houses, for $5 million. The household says the expertise brought about lasting trauma, together with despair, nervousness, and night time terrors.

Williams’ physique, in response to the go well with, was not embalmed or ready correctly, resulting in what attorneys referred to as a “grotesque” presentation. The household believes the funeral dwelling tried to downplay the situation of the physique.

In an announcement, Hollomon-Brown CEO Casey Jones provided condolences however declined to remark additional, citing the continued litigation. The case is ready to be heard in Chesapeake Circuit Court docket on July 28.
