HISD’s Madison Excessive Faculty has applied a strict no-exceptions coverage on cellphone utilization, sparking protests amongst college students and oldsters. This new rule bars college students from bringing cellphones onto the varsity premises.

Principal Edgar Contreras stated the coverage goals to make sure the security of scholars and workers. Below this coverage, any pupil discovered with a cellphone upon arrival should give up it to the entrance workplace till the tip of the varsity day.

Contreras justified the stringent measure by citing the need to quell the incidence of fights throughout the college. The varsity just lately went into lockdown mode as a precautionary measure in response to protests, which Contreras acknowledged have been instigated by some disgruntled college students.

HISD had bolstered its district-wide cellphone coverage in August, mandating that college students both go away their cell telephones at house or stow them away of their backpacks throughout college hours. The rationale behind this coverage, based on the varsity district, is that pupil telephone utilization in the course of the educational day disrupts studying, fosters conflicts amongst college students, and undermines the specified college tradition.

Below the newly applied coverage, a first-time offense throughout the varsity district entails the confiscation of the scholar’s telephone, which they’ll retrieve on the finish of the day. A second offense will outcome within the telephone being returned to a mum or dad or guardian, who should personally gather it from the varsity.
