Lupita Nyong’o is honoring Fibroid Consciousness Month by sharing her private expertise with the continual well being situation and taking motion via congressional payments and a analysis grant.

The Black Panther star acquired candid in a July 15 Instagram submit that highlighted the Academy Award she received in 2014, the identical 12 months she discovered she had uterine fibroids. With uterine fibroids impacting 80% of Black girls and 70% of white girls by age 50, Nyong’o stresses the significance of elevating consciousness on this problem to cease normalizing the ache girls endure throughout menstruation.

The US star additionally teamed up with the Basis for Ladies’s Well being to launch the FWH x Lupita Nyong’o Uterine Fibroid Analysis Grant, which goals to “develop minimally invasive or non-invasive remedies for uterine fibroids to cut back signs and enhance high quality of life for the 15 million sufferers affected by this continual situation within the U.S. alone.”

“This Fibroid Consciousness Month and past, I hope my expertise will resonate with anybody else who has ever felt dismissed, confused, or alone,” she wrote. “And I hope to hunt solutions for the far too many ladies coping with uterine fibroids (80% of Black girls and 70% of white girls by age 50!).
