Leak in LA council racism scandal may have come from 2 ex-labor employees, police say

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police say two former workers of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor are the main target of an investigation right into a secret recording of a number of Metropolis Council members and a labor chief that entangled Metropolis Corridor in a racism scandal.

The aftermath shook public belief in authorities and led to the resignations of then-Los Angeles Metropolis Council President Nury Martinez and the highly effective labor chief. The scandal was triggered by a leaked recording of crude, racist feedback throughout a non-public assembly in 2021 on the labor federation’s headquarters involving Martinez, de León and two others — all Latino Democrats — wherein they plotted to increase their political energy on the expense of Black voters throughout a realignment of council district boundaries.
