Lasizwe calls on SARS to tax influencers fairly

Actuality TV star and TV host Lasizwe Dambuza has revealed that he desires to have a one-on-one with SARS.

The South African Income Service (SARS) not too long ago raised concern amongst content material creators after asserting plans to focus on their earnings.

With the rise of digital advertising, the place influencers earn cash for creating content material by platforms akin to TikTok, Instagram, Fb, X, YouTube, and extra, SARS now desires them to declare their earnings.

LASIZWE SHARES HIS THOUGHTS ON SARS PLANS TO TAX INFLUENCERS

Lasizwe not too long ago took to X to voice his ideas on the difficulties influencers might encounter with South Africa’s tax system.

He criticised those that claimed he doesn’t pay tax after initially talking out in opposition to SARS’ plans to tax influencers.

“I need to be clear, I do pay tax. Mina, I’ve at all times contributed, and I imagine in constructing this nation,” he wrote.

The Awkward Dates host mentioned the influencer business is unconventional and sometimes stuffed with blurred boundaries. He added that influencer earnings are complicated and require higher construction, schooling, and dialogue reasonably than confusion or criticism.

“There are blurred traces between paid work, gifting, commerce exchanges, and delayed funds, like some creators nonetheless wait months to be paid,” he defined.

LASIZWE CALLS FOR A WORKSHOP WITH SARS

Lasizwe additional mentioned that he desires an open workshop with SARS to information creators on honest, clear, and sustainable tax contributions.

“Mina, I’d genuinely welcome a workshop or sit down with abo SARS to debate how creators can contribute in a method that’s honest, knowledgeable, and future proof. nithini nina?,” he wrote.

In a press release issued on Friday, 5 September 2025, SARS highlighted its aim to coach influencers on tax compliance and urged them to declare their earnings.

“It should be reiterated that it stays the social influencers’ authorized obligation to declare all earnings obtained.

“Full voluntary disclosure is essential. Irrespective of how social influencers are remunerated — whether or not with merchandise, providers, or journey — all of those are deemed as earnings (ITA) and should be taxed accordingly,” the assertion learn.
