*Blues virtuoso Joe Bonamassa is ensuring B.B. King’s one centesimal birthday receives a correct musical tribute.

As Soul Tracks studies, “B.B. King’s Blues Summit 100” brings collectively a rare lineup spanning blues, jazz, R&B, rock, and nation to honor the enduring guitarist. Bonamassa mentioned the venture got here collectively after he seen the milestone was prone to going unrecognized.

“We discovered that no person was actually doing a tribute document to him. It wasn’t actually on anybody’s radar, so in January of 2025, we determined to begin the B.B. King Blues Summit 100 album,” he mentioned.

The roster is outstanding. Buddy Man performs “Candy Little Angel.” George Benson, Trombone Shorty, Slash, Keb Mo, and Bobby Rush spherical out a stacked contributor checklist. Lots of the artists had private musical connections to King. That historical past is clear on the album’s debut single, a rendition of “The Thrill is Gone” that includes Chaka Khan and Eric Clapton. The tune initially gave King certainly one of his largest chart successes and a Grammy Award in 1970.

Khan carried out alongside the blues legend in each 1987 and 1993. Their joint model pairs Khan’s commanding vocals with Clapton’s reliably sensible guitar work.

As King’s centennial 12 months rolls on, Bonamassa’s formidable venture ensures that certainly one of American music’s most towering figures is widely known the best way he deserves.
