On Tuesday, the Home handed the SAVE Act, a invoice that may disenfranchise thousands and thousands of individuals by forcing them to point out proof of citizenship to register to vote in nationwide elections. That is all on the behest of President Trump, who insists that there’s rampant voter fraud — which is simply not true.

Based on NBC Information, “Lawmakers authorized the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act in a 220-208 vote, with 4 Democrats — Reps. Ed Case of Hawaii; Henry Cuellar of Texas; Jared Golden of Maine; and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington state — becoming a member of each Republican current in help of the measure.”

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, sponsored the SAVE Act, which might change the Nationwide Voter Registration Act so states would now be required to ask for in-person proof of citizenship for individuals who need to vote.

There can even be checks that Black people must full earlier than they’ll show that they’re in truth good sufficient to vote.

Editor: The laws doesn’t say that.

Me: It’d as properly.

And the issue that doesn’t exist has been solved. Republicans have been satisfied ever since Trump misplaced to Joe Biden that there was this large inflow of undocumented immigrants voting in nationwide elections.

From BBC:

One by the Brennan Heart for Justice interviewed 44 election officers who labored throughout 12 states in the course of the 2016 election.

It discovered that out of 23.5 million votes counted in these states, an estimated 30 suspected incidents of non-citizens voting had been referred for additional investigation.

That’s about 0.0001% of all votes forged.

However that hasn’t stopped Republicans from guaranteeing that this nonissue is resolved. The SAVE Act would ask that every one states “take away undocumented immigrants from present voter rolls,” and it “would enable Americans to sue election officers that don’t observe proof of citizenship necessities,” NBC Information studies.

“With the intention to protect this republic, we should uphold what it means to have the ability to vote in a U.S. election,” Roy mentioned, NBC Information studies. “I’m grateful that my colleagues answered the decision and handed the SAVE Act, as this serves as a crucial first step to make sure that we keep election integrity all through our nation.”

Democrats have been screaming from the hilltops that this effort to cease nonexistent undocumented immigrant voting would simply disenfranchise eligible voters who don’t have no matter arbitrary documentation they’re requiring.

“My Republican colleagues crafted and handed some of the damaging voter suppression payments in trendy historical past. There’s little question that ladies, army members, and other people of shade will likely be disproportionately impacted,” Rep. Joe Morelle, (D-N.Y.,) the rating member on the Home Administration Committee, mentioned in a press release to NBC Information. “The struggle to cease this invoice — to guard People’ sacred proper to vote — is just not over. I’ll do all the pieces in my energy to make sure each eligible American has entry to the poll field.”

Until Democrats promote out America once more and stroll over to the darkish aspect, the SAVE Act ought to die within the Senate.

“Senate Republicans would want Democratic help to beat the 60-vote threshold to advance the invoice to a closing vote and in the end ship it to Trump to signal into regulation,” NBC Information studies.

It’s unlawful for noncitizens to vote in elections. Federal regulation already requires voters to swear that they’re residents and eligible to vote. What extra would you like?!

Are there some other 0.0001% non-issues that lawmakers need to move payments about?

I hope not.
