Historically Black universities receive bomb threats

Morgan State College (MSU) officers are taking additional precaution on the Northeast Baltimore campus after receiving a bomb menace on Sept. 30. 

Leaders of the traditionally Black college put out a press release saying that they “obtained an electronic mail menace indicating a possible explosive gadget within the Richardson Library.” 

Faculty authorities knowledgeable the Baltimore Police Division and mentioned “as with all threats—the Morgan State College Police Division is taking the matter very significantly.” 

After officers inspected every ground of the library, an all clear was given. 

“The Morgan State College Police Division, in coordination with the Baltimore Police Division, has accomplished an intensive search of the Richardson Library’s inside and exterior,” mentioned the college, in a press release posted to their web site someday round 3 p.m. “No explosive gadgets have been discovered, and the menace has been deemed not credible. An all-clear has been issued, and the library has reopened for regular operations.”

“The security and well-being of our campus stay our highest precedence. Please stay vigilant and conscious of your environment. The menace got here on the identical day that Delaware State College (DSU), a Black establishment positioned in Dover, Del.; Alabama A&M College, a traditionally Black college in Huntsville, Ala.; Towson College (TU), a minority- majority establishment positioned in Baltimore County, Md., and the College of Delaware in Newark, Del. all obtained bomb threats.

DSU authorities confirmed that the college “obtained a bomb menace simply earlier than 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.” Lessons have been cancelled for the rest of the day and all staff have been despatched dwelling, except important personnel. 

TU officers mentioned their campus was “cleared and reopened after a complete sweep” which was “carried out by a mixed workforce consisting of college personnel, Towson College Public Security Officers and Baltimore County police models.” 

Shortly earlier than 1 p.m. the College Union constructing that was threatened on TU’s campus reopened together with the Union Storage. The threats to the entire universities come simply weeks after a slew of bomb threats directed at traditionally Black schools and universities throughout the nation on Sept. 11, together with Alabama State College, Clark Atlanta College, Virginia State College and extra.  In the end, all have been unfounded, however the specter of violence disrupted lessons and campus actions.
