GWBCC Hosts Juneteenth Awards Reception Honoring DC Black Business Leaders

GWBCC honors leaders in Black entrepreneurship and group constructing

The Better Washington DC Black Chamber of Commerce (GWBCC) will host its Juneteenth Awards Reception on June 30 to honor entrepreneurs for his or her efforts to maintain, construct, and inform communities. The occasion will acknowledge Kristina Noell, Amanda Stephenson, Yusef Henriques, and others for his or her contributions to the financial and cultural material of the larger Washington area. The occasion is a part of the chamber’s Artwork of Black Enterprise sequence, which goals to assist and acknowledge Black entrepreneurs.

The Better Washington DC Black Chamber of Commerce (GWBCC) will host its Juneteenth Awards Reception on June 30. The nonprofit’s mission is to assist financial growth within the Black group via schooling, enterprise and entrepreneurship.

“This celebration is greater than an awards ceremony — it’s a highly effective reflection of the function Black companies play in shaping the financial and cultural material of the larger Washington area,” stated Aisha Bond, president and CEO of the GWBCC. 

Honorees embrace Kristina Noell, the primary African American lady to function a Enterprise Enchancment District government director in Washington, D.C.; Amanda Stephenson, founding father of the Recent Meals Manufacturing facility, which combats meals deserts in Ward 8; and Yusef Henriques, who launched a genomics startup in D.C. to advance well being fairness for Indigenous and African diasporic communities. Additionally acknowledged are cooks Mac McAlister and Pinkey Reddick, house owners of Flavorture; B. Doyle Mitchell Jr., president and CEO of Industrial Financial institution; and Denise Barnes, proprietor and writer of The Washington Informer.

The awards reception is a featured occasion within the chamber’s Artwork of Black Enterprise sequence, which honors entrepreneurs for his or her efforts to maintain, construct and inform communities.

The Capital Workforce Innovation Consortium, a program of the Division of Employment Providers, and BuildWithin can even be acknowledged because the Enterprise Partnerships of the 12 months. Held within the spirit of Juneteenth, the occasion shouldn’t be solely a second of recognition but in addition a name to proceed investing in Black entrepreneurship.

“Juneteenth reminds us of the legacy of our previous, whereas the achievements of those honorees encourage our future,” Bond stated.
