GOP Senator In Florida Proposes Amendment to Ban Reparation Payments to Black Residents In State

A Republican state senator from Florida launched a constitutional modification on Monday, Nov. 27, aimed toward prohibiting the state and all native degree governments from paying reparations to Black residents for slavery.

Sen. Blaise Ingoglia of Spring Hill, who’s the previous chairman of the state Republican Celebration, proposed the modification, which is able to come up for consideration through the subsequent legislative session in January, with the purpose of placing the difficulty on the poll in November.

The modification would “prohibit the state, a county, a municipality, and some other political subdivision from paying compensation within the type of reparations to a person who’s a descendant of an enslaved particular person who lived in america earlier than December 6, 1865.”
