GLAAACC Ed Fund Scholarships Makes College Dream A Reality  – Los Angeles Sentinel

Since 1999, the Higher Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce Schooling Fund & Basis has awarded almost $1 million in scholarships, empowering inner-city youth to pursue greater schooling, break cycles of poverty, and develop into tomorrow’s leaders.  

The scholarships present monetary help for instructional packages for the tutorial development of scholars from colleges in underserved communities in GLAAACC’s goal geographic area, with specific emphasis on these college students pursuing a business-oriented curriculum. GLAAACC Ed Fund scholarships are distinctive in that they’re granted to minority college students, significantly in STEM fields, who exhibit excessive educational achievement, management potential, a dedication to innovation and who exhibit vital group service involvement.

Scholarship recipients embrace:  From Crenshaw Excessive Faculty - Honesty Anderson (Louisiana State College / Pre Bodily Remedy); Alexis N. Williams (College of California, Los Angeles / Biology); From George Washington Preparatory Excessive Faculty - Jazmin C. Allen (College of California, Los Angeles / Public Affairs); Devin Beard (California State College, Fullerton / Enterprise Administration); From Dorsey Excessive Faculty - Maki D. Draper (College of California, Davis / Molecular and Medical Microbiology); Brennen Higgins-Bell (Howard College / Enterprise Administration); Zaire McNeal (California State College, Los Angeles / Kinesiology); From Hamilton Excessive Faculty - Joseph C. Burney (College of California, Berkeley / Philosophy); Bryanna Searcy (College of California, Los Angeles / Public Affairs); From Jordan Excessive Faculty - LaNyia Joseph (San Jose State College / Obstetrics); Kayla Lawrence (California State College, Northridge / Radiologic Science); David Sandy (California State College, Sacramento / Mechanical Engineering). 

Past financial help, the scholarships present college students with entry to GLAAACC’s community of Black professionals who present ongoing recommendation and steerage. 

“At GLAAACC, we imagine that studying is a life-long pursuit,” GLAAACC Chairman Gene Hale stated.  “Greater schooling is without doubt one of the essential keys to enterprise success.  It’s our honor and, frankly, our obligation to assist the following technology obtain their dream of turning into entrepreneurs, enterprise house owners and CEOs.” 

The Hale Household Basis and SoCalGas are main GLAAACC Ed Fund scholarship supporters, every contributing $25,000.  Different sponsors embrace Financial institution of America, Northrop Grumman, The AIDS Well being Basis, Elite Auto Community, Epstein Becker Inexperienced, Georgina Shaw Gatewood, The Joyce Lombard Boyd Memorial Scholarship, SoCal Edison, AG & Associates, Valero and Vitality Furnishings. 

On the reception ceremony in July, GLAAACC Ed Fund Chairwoman Epstein Becker Inexperienced Legal professional Kimberly Carter and Scholarship Chair Exterior Affairs Supervisor, Workplace of California Legal professional Common, Rob Bonta, Eric Boyd, extolled the worth of upper schooling and challenged scholarship recipients to remain the course.
