George Santos Announces Reelection Bid Amid Federal Charges

Former Congressman George Santos, who was ousted from the Home of Representatives amid federal indictments for an array of alleged fraud, has introduced that he’s working for Congress once more.

On Thursday, as President Joe Biden was giving his State of the Union deal with, the disgraced Santos was in attendance within the decrease chamber. His presence prompted questions as to why he was there, and he answered them by declaring that he was working for Congress once more in a submit to X, previously Twitter.

“Tonight, I wish to announce that I can be returning to the sector of politics and difficult Nick (LaLota) for the battle over #NY1,” Santos tweeted. “I sit up for debating him on the problems and on his weak report as a Republican. The battle for our majority is crucial for the survival of the nation.”

Santos turned the third Home member ever to be expelled by his friends final December after being indicted on 23 counts for a number of federal crimes together with id theft, cash laundering and theft of public funds. An additional investigation by the Home Ethics Committee resulted in a 56-page report detailing the misuse of marketing campaign funds totaling $50,000, which included purchases at Sephora, Hermes, and an OnlyFans subscription. Earlier than that, Santos was revealed to have lied extensively about his background, together with claiming to have labored at Goldman Sachs and having a grandparent who died within the Holocaust.

“Consultant George Santos can’t be trusted. The present Consultant, Nick LaLota, is a first-time Congressman representing the district which is subsequent door to the one Santos represented earlier than his expulsion. Santos filed with the Federal Election Fee, expressing intent to run within the GOP main in June. In his submit on X, LaLota responded:

“If ending the job requires beating him in a main, rely me in.”
