Following companies earlier within the day, about 200 folks confirmed up at a Sunday night vigil a block from the Greenback Normal retailer in Jacksonville the place officers stated Ryan Palmeter opened fireplace Saturday utilizing weapons he purchased legally regardless of a previous involuntary dedication for a psychological well being examination.

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis — who’s operating for the GOP nomination for president, who has loosened gun legal guidelines in Florida and who has antagonized civil rights leaders by deriding “wokeness ” — was loudly booed as he addressed the vigil.

Ju’Coby Pittman, a Jacksonville metropolis councilwoman who represents the neighborhood the place the capturing occurred, stepped in to ask the group to hear.

“It ain’t about events right now,” she stated. “A bullet don’t know a celebration.”

DeSantis stated that on Monday the state could be asserting monetary help for safety at Edward Waters College, the traditionally black faculty close to the place the capturing occurred, and to assist the affected households. He known as the gunman a “main league scumbag.”
