Expertise from Zimbabwe continues to shine brightly on South Africa’s leisure and vogue levels. Right here’s a take a look at 5 unimaginable girls Zim celebrities who’ve carved out profitable careers in Mzansi:

Shasha

Referred to as the “Queen of Amapiano”, Charmaine Shamiso Mapimbiro, professionally generally known as Sha Sha, has captivated South Africa together with her soulful voice and chart-topping hits like Tender Love and Woza. Born in Mutare, Zimbabwe, she started her musical journey in 2011 and was later found by Audius Mtawarira.

Working with the likes of DJ Maphorisa and Kabza de Small, Sha Sha has turn out to be one of the celebrated artists within the Amapiano style. She has earned worldwide recognition, together with a BET Award for Finest New Worldwide Act in 2020. In line with NME, she is the primary Zimbabwean artist to be named Finest New Worldwide Act on the BET Awards

Nadia Nakai

Hip-hop star Nadia Nakai has risen to prominence in South Africa’s rap scene. Along with her Zimbabwean heritage by way of her mom, Nadia has embraced her roots whereas dominating the music business. In a 2023 interview on Zingah’s podcast, Nadia Nakai said she prefers to be recognised as a South African rapper.

She believes that Zimbabwean rappers who rap in Shona and are based mostly in Zimbabwe ought to obtain the designation of Zimbabwean artists. The controversy reignited after the BET Awards labeled Nadia a Zimbabwean artist and nominated her for Finest Worldwide Movement.

Kim Jayde

In line with the International Instructor Prize, Kim Jayde, born in Harare and raised in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, accomplished her highschool schooling in 2008. She moved to South Africa in 2009 and earned an Honours Diploma in Social Work from the College of Stellenbosch.

Berita (Gugulethu Khumalo)

Afro-soul singer and songwriter Berita was born in Bulawayo and has discovered success in South Africa together with her emotive songs and charming performances. Hits like Thandolwethu and Ndicel’ikiss have endeared her to followers throughout the continent. Berita can also be a philanthropist and advocate for African girls within the arts.

Chi Mhende

Chiedza “Chi” Mhende is a Zimbabwean actress who gained fame in South Africa for her groundbreaking function as Wandile Radebe in Generations: The Legacy. Her gender-bending efficiency earned her vital acclaim and showcased her immense performing vary. Past performing, Chi is a voice-over artist and director, solidifying her place as a multifaceted expertise.
