First Black Woman Skateboard Artist Makes History, Takes Center Stage at First Solo Museum Exhibit

Nationwide — The Richmond Artwork Museum is proud to host an inspiring exhibition by Latosha Stone-Keagy, often known as ToshaIsGnarly, celebrating girls’s empowerment, skateboarding, variety, and the affect of anime in her modern artwork.

Hailing from Greenville, Ohio, Stone-Keagy is a painter and graphic designer famend for her charming artworks that depict cute but fiercely empowered girls. Drawing inspiration from anime and surrealism, her vibrant items demand a second look, inviting viewers right into a world the place energy and femininity converge.

The exhibition, marking Latosha’s first solo museum present, options an eclectic mixture of unique skateboard deck designs, oil work, and digital artwork prints. Latosha’s creative journey started at a younger age when she was captivated by the world of artwork. Her first inspiration was an uncle who lived together with her quickly and painted landscapes. In class, she was the child who couldn’t resist sketching within the margins of homework. She recollects a pivotal second in second grade when she received an award for a deer she had meticulously drawn. It was a proud accomplishment, however upon taking it residence, the keenness was met with ridicule from somebody shut. Her unique skateboard designs gained recognition in 2020 once they have been featured in HBO’s TV present “Betty” and Beyoncé’s Black Parade web site.
