‘Fake UJ lecturer’ claimed to favour Zimbabweans over SA students

Joel Sangweni, a Zimbabwean nationwide who falsely claimed to be a lecturer on the College of Johannesburg (UJ), has sparked outrage after reportedly stating that he intentionally fails South African college students whereas awarding distinctions to Zimbabwean college students.

His feedback, which circulated on social media, led to widespread backlash, with many customers demanding motion from UJ.

In a remark that has since sparked outrage, Sangweni wrote on Fb: “We don’t earn cash right here, mina (loosely translated as ‘me’) I’m a lecturer, I’ll make your youngsters endure and fail, these from Zimbabwe will go with distinctions.”

UJ Denies Sangweni’s Affiliation

Many customers, outraged by the remarks, tagged the college of their posts and demanded fast motion. UJ has clarified that Sangweni isn’t a lecturer on the establishment. It has refuted any affiliation with the statements he made.

In an official assertion, the college acknowledged: “Mr. Sangweni isn’t employed by the college in any capability. He briefly served as a tutor in 2024.”

Sangweni Claims Account Was Hacked

After the backlash, Sangweni claimed that hackers had accessed his Fb account, in keeping with IOL. Regardless of this assertion, UJ has launched an investigation into the matter.

“The college takes educational integrity severely and can take sturdy steps, together with authorized motion, in opposition to any one that, by omission or fee, undermines its dedication to educational integrity,” the assertion learn.

Debate on Employment Insurance policies and Misinformation

The controversy has reignited debates on social media. Many customers are calling for stricter employment insurance policies that prioritize South African residents over overseas nationals. The incident has raised issues over misinformation. It has additionally highlighted the potential hurt brought on by people falsely associating themselves with respected establishments.
