Edward Caban named new NYPD Commissioner

Mayor Eric Adams names Edward Caban as the brand new NYPD Commissioner. The mayor made the announcement Monday throughout a press convention within the Bronx on the fortieth Precinct.

Adams additionally named Tania Kinsella as forty fifth first deputy commissioner. She is the primary Black lady to carry the place.

Caban, 55, was named interim commissioner in June when former commissioner Keechant Sewell introduced her resignation after being on the job for 18 months.

Making historical past, Caban is the primary Latino named NYPD Commissioner.

“I’m humbled to be in your workforce and to guide the best police division on the globe,” mentioned Caban. “The NYPD is probably the most consequential police division in all of regulation enforcement.

A Bronx native, Caban joined the NYPD in 1991 rising to the rank of sergeant and later inspector. He beforehand served as First Deputy Police Commissioner underneath Sewell.

Kinsella started her profession with the NYPD as a police officer in 2003, patrolling the streets of the a hundred and twentieth Precinct on Staten Island. Promoted to captain in 2016, Kinsella started her government profession as the chief officer of the a hundred and twentieth Precinct. She was designated because the commanding officer of Housing Police Service Space 1 in 2018 and was promoted to deputy inspector in 2019. In 2020, Kinsella was designated because the commanding officer of the a hundred and twentieth Precinct. She was promoted to inspector in 2021.

In 2022, Kinsella was assigned as the chief officer of the Workplace of the Chief of Patrol, the place she was subsequently promoted to deputy chief.
