By Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr.NNPA President and CEO

On Aug. 28, in solemn commemoration of the historic 1963 March on Washington, a united coalition of church buildings and the Black Press led by Dr. Boise Kimber, Bishop J. Drew Sheard, Dr. Samuel C. Tolbert, Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr, president and CEO of the Nationwide Newspaper Publishers Affiliation (NNPA): The Black Press of America, will be part of Civil Rights icon Rev. Al Sharpton, founding father of the Nationwide Motion Community, to steer a protest march on Wall Road in New York Metropolis, the epicenter of financial energy and privilege. The march will function distinguished spiritual and Civil Rights leaders and activists, who will converse and way more.

As our communities face a mounting financial disaster disproportionately devastating African People and the marginalized, we declare that now’s the time for the religion neighborhood to rise and converse with ethical readability. Simply as Dr. King earlier than us, in the present day’s spiritual leaders should carry the mandate and mantle to struggle for social and financial justice for all individuals.

The march not solely honors the legacy of those that got here earlier than us but in addition confronts the pressing injustices of in the present day. Financial disparity isn’t just a political difficulty; it’s a ethical one. We is not going to be silent. We is not going to yield to programs or insurance policies that rob our individuals of alternative, dignity, and fundamental human rights.

That is greater than a second; it is a motion. Collectively, we are going to stand. Collectively, we are going to march. Collectively, we are going to converse. Collectively, we are going to rise.

This assertion was offered by the Joint Coalition of Church buildings and Nationwide Motion Community by way of the NNPA Newswire.
