Death toll of SANDF soldiers killed by M23 in DRC increases

The South African Nationwide Defence Power (SANDF) has confirmed that 4 troopers have been killed throughout a conflict with the M23 rebels group in Goma, within the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

On the weekend, the defence drive additionally confirmed that 9 troops had been killed throughout a fierce two-day conflict with the M23 rebels in Goma, jap DRC.

MORE SANDF MEMBERS KILLED IN DRC

On Tuesday, SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini mentioned following an change of mortar bomb between the FARDC, Congolese Defence Power and the M23 insurgent militia on Monday, 27 January, close to Goma Airport the place the SANDF base is collocated, three members of the SANDF had been caught within the crossfire and had been killed. 

Dlamini mentioned the M23 rebels launched a number of a mortar bomb within the course of Goma Airport, which landed within the SANDF base, and this resulted within the SANDF shedding three members.

Dlamini mentioned the defence drive stays absolutely dedicated to its peacekeeping duties below the United Nations Stabilisation Mission within the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) and SADC Mission within the Democratic Republic of the Congo (SAMIDRC).

“Our troops proceed to function with resolve, braveness, and self-discipline in pursuit of peace and stability within the area. The Minister of Defence and Army Veterans, Angie Motshekga has despatched her heartfelt condolences to the households of the deceased and the complete defence household.”
