*Hosts of the In the Black Network’s new weekly talk show “Crowned” have asked the audience or would-be audience to expect “grown,” “raw,” and “real” conversations on the show. New episodes of the show drop each Monday at midnight.
“It’s going be a lot of grown woman talk, entertainment, tears, singing,” said Vivica A. Fox, one of the hosts, in a recent press junket in Los Angeles for the talk show. Other hosts are Syleena Johnson, Chanel Nicole Scott, and Kendra G.
The Black Network (ITBN) — a new advertising-based Video on Demand platform founded by James DuBose — is being raised as a new platform to promote Black culture. It is available at Intheblacknetwork.tv.
The “Crowned” hosts said DuBose told them he wants Crowned to be “real and raw,” and interwoven with their personal lives. The new show, reports UrbanHollywood411, will dwell on topics that impact Black women.
“It’s going to be conversations about our culture, topics that are happening from health to wealth to relationships, from four different, wonderful perspectives of life,” Vivica explained.
Vivica and Syleena co-hosted Fox Soul’s “Cocktails With Queens” with Claudia Jordan and LisaRaye McCoy, so they are not new to what “Crowned” aims to portray. The two now say that they will “straighten each other’s crowns” on their new show.
“Cocktails With Queens” came to an end in June at a time when Fox Soul was reshuffling its programming.
Syleena said the show will address any topic as long as it uplifts Black women. The discussion will not attempt to bash anyone, she said.
“We won’t be bashing anyone,” Syleena explained. “This isn’t a ‘hey, this person did this in social media or in the pop culture world, so we’re just going to drag them for filth.’ We’re not dragging anybody for filth, unless it pertains to our personal lives. So if I had to drag somebody down to my personal relationship, you’re going to find out about that, but this isn’t a dart-throwing show.”
The show will host a musical guest each week to give Black artists a platform to promote their brands.
“I sing the theme song on the show, I wrote it. It’s a first for me in my career, which I’m actually very proud of,” said Syleena, a Grammy-nominated R&B performer from Chicago. She will be keen to showcase her singing skills on the show.
