Councilmembers Hutt and Price Honor Dr. Adrian Dove – Los Angeles Sentinel

Dr. Adrian Dove, a lifelong civil rights and financial fairness champion, was just lately honored by the Los Angeles Metropolis Council. The ceremony, led by Councilwoman Heather Hutt and Councilman Curren D. Worth Jr., acknowledged Dr. Dove’s contributions to social justice and his management of the Kingdom Day Parade, the biggest and longest-running tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

For over 40 years, Dr. Dove has carried the torch of King’s imaginative and prescient.  A former Freedom Rider, he registered Black voters in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina through the peak of the civil rights motion. His work on Philadelphia’s minority employment plan laid the groundwork for equitable hiring practices nationwide. On the federal stage, his function as a particular counsel to the White Home formed insurance policies that dismantled systemic boundaries to racial equality, together with the institution of the Workplace of Minority Enterprise.

Councilwoman Hutt praised Dr. Dove as a “residing architect” of civil rights historical past, emphasizing that his affect extends past activism into high-level coverage reform. “His work has not solely broadened our understanding of civil rights,” she acknowledged, “however has additionally impressed and empowered a brand new technology of leaders to hold the torch of justice.”

Councilman Worth echoed these sentiments, highlighting Dr. Dove’s work with 4 U.S. presidents—Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Jimmy Carter. “He pushed for insurance policies that expanded financial and academic alternatives,” Worth stated. “He ensured monetary independence was inside attain for Black and minority-owned companies.”

Regardless of his quite a few achievements, Dr. Dove’s mission stays unfinished. Now in his nineties, retirement will not be in his plans.
