City of Inglewood’s 74th Annual Memorial Day Service

Memorial Obelisk Monument: Picture Credit score, Ricky Richardson

*(Inglewood, CA) – A big crowd gathered on the South Garden of Inglewood Metropolis Corridor on Monday, Might 29, 2023. The ceremony started at 11:00 a.m. in entrance of the Memorial Obelisk Monument at One Manchester Boulevard. This special day was the Metropolis of Inglewood’s 74th Annual Memorial Day Service. 74th Annual Memorial Day Service acknowledges previous and current battle heroes whereas honoring women and men who made the final word sacrifice of giving their lives whereas servicing the USA Armed Forces.

The climate was overcast, with a nice chill on this solemn day of remembrance and reflection.

Veterans, their households, and the neighborhood joined Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts, Jr., Councilmembers Gloria D. Grey, District 1; Alex Padilla, District 2; Eloy Morales Jr., District 3; and Dionne Faulk, District 4. Captain Dee Bernardo represented the Inglewood Police Division. State Senator Steven Bradford, SD-35, and Congresswoman Maxine Waters, CD-43 had been additionally in attendance.

Star Manning, Jr. Vice Commander, VFW Submit 2122 served as Mistress of Ceremony. The Presentation of Colours, the American Legion Auxiliary, Jackie Robinson Submit Unit 252, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Henry Brown, Chaplain Emeritus, American Legion Submit 578 offered the Opening Invocation.

Elliott McKenzie, U.S. Marine Corps Iraq Warfare Veteran/R&B Singer and Songwriter showcased his lovely voice on three picks all through this system. “Star Spangled Banner,” “America The Lovely,” and “God Bless America” to the delight of all in attendance.

This author was honored to participate within the Recognition of Veterans. Every Veteran launched him/herself to the gang, said their department of Army, rank and years served.

Billy R. Zinnerman, Sergeant Main USMC (retired) keynote speaker for the Memorial Day Handle. The speech was humorous as he shared how he initially turned a Marine. Mr. Zinnerman speech was encouraging and provoking.

Commendations and Particular Recognitions had been offered. Adopted by La Brea Heights Service Unit Lady Scouts of Better Los Angeles assisted in Inserting of Memorial Flowers on the Memorial Obelisk Monument.

This system concluded with Benediction, by Reverend Curtis Gould, Chaplain, American Legion Submit 578, and Retiring the Colours, American Legion Auxiliary Jackie Robinson Unit 252 Coloration Guard, and ending with the taking part in of Faucets.

Thank You was prolonged to numerous native and community-based organizations concerned within the ceremony.
