*I’m scripting this not simply as a founder, not simply as a businesswoman, not even simply as a girl of religion. I’m scripting this as a daughter of a individuals who have fought too laborious, suffered too lengthy, and are available too far to face nonetheless at a second like this. I’m writing with urgency in my spirit, as a result of time is working out and I refuse to be silent!

There was a time when the Black church was not only a place we went to on Sunday; it was the very heartbeat of our survival. It was the place we realized to learn when it was unlawful to show us. It was the place we organized when the world tried to scatter us. It was the place actions have been born that modified the course of historical past.

Once we have been denied colleges, the church grew to become the classroom. Once we have been denied care, we constructed hospitals. Once we have been denied alternative, we created our personal. The Black church didn’t wait. It stood within the hole. However right this moment, I have to ask a painful query: Black Pastors, Black Church buildings, The place you at?

The place is that very same urgency now? As a result of we’re in one other disaster. Not chains on our fingers, however chains on our brains. Not blocked doorways however missed alternatives. Not illiteracy by legislation, however illiteracy by neglect. Our kids can scroll, however they can’t learn. They’ll click on, however they can’t create wealth. They’re related to the world. however disconnected from legacy. And whereas that is occurring — too many people are watching and doing nothing about it!

Let me say one thing plain: No airplane is coming. No prepare is coming. No bus, no automotive, no bicycle is coming to rescue us. If we’re going to rise, we should stroll collectively towards financial freedom, literacy, and possession. And we should do it now.

Scripture tells us in II Timothy 2:15, “Examine to shew thyself accredited unto God…”

However how can we examine… if we can not learn? Proverbs 13:22 says, “An excellent man leaves an inheritance to his kids’s kids…” However how can we depart an inheritance, when we now have not been taught learn how to construct one? This isn’t simply an financial concern. It is a non secular accountability.

Rev. Melvin Porties
Rev. Melvin Porties sings ‘[Have I Given Anything] Right now’

That’s the reason I created what’s now the thirtieth Annual Black Writers On Tour + Enterprise + AI Expo, happening on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Carson, California. This isn’t simply an occasion. It is a lifeline.

Beneath one roof, we’ll deliver collectively: 100 Black authors, 50+ Black-owned companies. Actual alternatives in literacy, entrepreneurship, and synthetic intelligence. Our theme says all of it: “The place Literature, Legacy, and Synthetic Intelligence Converge” …and the query we should reply: “Who Will Inform Our Story?”

However right here is the reality that brings tears to my eyes: I can construct the platform, However I can not deliver the folks with out the church. Pastors, I’m calling on you—not politely, however prophetically. We want the Black church to rise once more. Not in reminiscence, however in motion. Not in custom, however in transformation. We want you to talk this out of your pulpit. We want you to place this in your bulletins. We want you to look your congregation within the eye and say: “Your future will depend on what you do subsequent.” As a result of it does. I’m not asking for cash. I’m asking for management. I’m asking for accountability. I’m asking you to recollect who you might be—and who you may have all the time been to our folks.

We have been as soon as overwhelmed for making an attempt to learn. Now we now have freedom, and too many are selecting to not. That ought to shake us. That ought to wake us and transfer us. That ought to convict us! That is our second to show our folks to learn once more; to show our folks to construct once more; to show our folks to personal once more; to raise them up from the financial ditch and out from beneath the financial garbage.

I’m 80 years outdated, and I’m nonetheless preventing, nonetheless constructing, and nonetheless believing; as a result of I do know what’s at stake. The query isn’t whether or not we now have the instruments. The query is: Do we now have the need? And even deeper—will the Black church reply the decision or ignore the cry of its folks?

I’m calling on you; not tomorrow; not subsequent 12 months; however proper now, right this moment! As a result of our folks can’t wait.
