Black Mom From Louisiana Says Her Son Was Killed Because of a Custody Battle

Nationwide — LaSonia Harris, an African American mother from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is heartbroken after her 20-year-old son, Steven Harris, was killed allegedly as a consequence of a custody dispute. He was a sophomore at Southern College, and investigators say that three folks plotted his homicide whereas he was in a custody battle together with his baby’s mom.

On July 17, an unfamiliar automotive picked Steven up from his house, and he was by no means seen once more. A number of days later, a physique believed to be Steven’s was present in Wilkinson County, Mississippi, with a number of gunshot wounds, in keeping with WLBT.

Derek Hollins Jr., Calajia Jack, and Allyah Martin have been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree homicide. Hollins faces an extra cost for possessing a machine gun.

LaSonia is battling a mixture of feelings. She mentioned, “I’m distraught from dropping my son. The circumstances for which I misplaced my son. I’m confused about why did it have to come back to this. I’m damage as a result of I felt like this was an intentional try to harm me and my household and I’m offended as a result of it was pointless.”

In accordance with investigators, Steven and Allyah Martin have been concerned in a custody battle over their son. LaSonia believes this dispute led to her son’s demise.

“It’s plainly clear that he was arrange,” she mentioned.

Sheriff Brian Spillman talked about that Steven was well-known in the neighborhood and had connections with the accused. He mentioned, “We wish to ensure that we get justice for the sufferer and the sufferer’s household.”

Hollins reportedly admitted to proudly owning the gun used within the crime.

In the meantime, LaSonia needs to recollect her son fondly.

“My son was the everyday 20-year-old faculty scholar. A lover of HBCU music who performed an instrument for 10 years. My son was essentially the most giving, proficient, loyal pal that you might ever meet,” she mentioned.

Furthermore, LaSonia and her husband at the moment are caring for his or her grandson. The investigation continues to be ongoing, and extra fees could possibly be added.
