Babysitter Sentenced to Life in Prison for Killing 22-Month-Old Boy in Michigan

Nationwide — Kimora Hodges, a 24-year-old African American girl from Roseville, Michigan, will spend the remainder of her life in jail for killing a toddler she was employed to take care of. The 22-month-old boy, named Kyrie, died in 2022 after struggling extreme mind accidents attributable to Hodges.

In June 2022, Hodges was babysitting Kyrie whereas his mom, Taylor Starks, was at work. Starks stated Hodges first messaged her about how Kyrie was sleeping, then later claimed he had eaten cleaning soap and was having an allergic response. Starks believed the story till medical doctors uncovered the reality after Kyrie was rushed to the hospital.

Docs discovered that the kid had suffered blunt pressure trauma to the top, bleeding from his ears, and required emergency mind surgical procedure. He remained unresponsive for practically every week earlier than dying from his accidents.

“All I do know is she threw my son into the wall and shook him up fairly unhealthy,” Starks informed Fox 2 Detroit. “They stated that’s only a little bit of what she did to him.”

In July, a jury discovered Hodges responsible of felony homicide and first-degree baby abuse. She acquired a life sentence with out parole for the homicide and an extra 15 to 40 years for the abuse cost.

Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido stated the sentence displays the seriousness of the crime. “The defendant’s actions resulted within the tragic loss of life of an harmless baby,” he stated. “The court docket has imposed a life sentence with out the potential for parole to carry her totally accountable.”

The case took longer to achieve trial after Hodges appealed a ruling on her police statements. She argued that officers continued questioning her after she requested for a lawyer. The Michigan Court docket of Appeals finally determined to suppress one assertion however allowed one other for use in court docket.
