Atlanta Mourns Dr. Booker T. Poe, A City Hero For 6 Decades

Dr. Booker T. Poe was one of many Atlanta’s first Black pediatricians.

Atlanta is paying tribute to a trailblazer in group well being. Dr. Booker T. Poe, one of many metropolis’s first Black pediatricians, handed away on Aug. 31.

 Council member Michael Julian Bond added that Poe went past medical care, serving to enhance immunization entry for underserved sufferers and even influencing pediatric seatbelt legal guidelines—a legacy of compassion and advocacy.

Dr. Poe’s journey started when he earned his medical diploma and arrange follow in Atlanta at a time when Black pediatricians had been uncommon.
